Wissota Walleye Size Limit Change

#694711 - 07/24/08 03:08 PM

I received an email from a member asking about the temporary elimination of the walleye size limit on Lake Wissota. I had heard nothing about this, so I just talked with the Eau Claire DNR office and Joe Kurz, our local fish biologist. The size limit is still in place, and is, and will remain 14-18" for the forseen future. Joe has fielded dozens of calls in the last two weeks, pertaining to this subject, and has no idea why people think this, or who is spreading the rumor. I have also heard the rumor, that the slot may increase next year. That too, is false. There is the possibility that it will change in the next few years, but nothing in the works, for the near future. So for those in question, don't wreck what we have worked hard for over the last dozen or so years. Plus the fine for keeping a slot fish, isn't cheap. Good Luck and enjoy the water.

Thanks for the update less. I had heard nothing about the change, and I hope it stays the way it is for a couple more years. We have all caught more 18" plus fish this year than we have in the last 10!! It is wonderful. Let's keep working to make this the best fishery we can!!

Agreed, I have been asked a couple of times this summer from guys as to why I am going up there for all of the little "cigars". I just chuckle to myself and realize they haven't fished the lake in a few years.
