I guess that might be like to old joke...where does a bear go in the woods.
I was checking out a new area and putting past a snag. As I went past a log protruding out from the snag, I took a double take. Then drifted back to get some pictures.
Unfortunately, the flat didn't show up as I had hoped. There was a white spot on it's dorsal fin, which (I think) I can see in the photo...and marked with an arrow...but you'll have to take my word for it. There is a 4ish pound flathead in this cavity.

I just spent a day shocking flatheads with the DNR. They all came out of wood or heavy riprap. It looked like there get themselves way into the snags during the day.

Anywhere they want to is the answer to that.

Weird. I was actually going to tell you about a 5-6 # channel that has been in a log almost identical to that for a couple of weeks. Thought you might want to see it but I guess you have your own pet now. Pretty cool. Chris

I hope you were able to recover all the ones that were shocked. I hate to see some get caught in the snag and drown.

FYI - When electrofishing in July/Aug, we tend to see big flatheads in <3' water burried deep within the timber. May/June we do not see this trend as much - but its almost a given during late summer.

How many adults do you guys get when shocking? The crew I was with gets 95% juveniles.

I've got two hiding in the livewell of an Alumacraft right now. Do you 'spose it'll cause permanent damage if I trim four or five inches off the tail on the bigger one so it'll fit?

No need Sean. There's a blue Alumacraft about 100 yards from me that has an extra hole in the bottom...I think the whole back floor is now a live well.
