I was out last night on P2 and noticed that my engine's water outflow was weaker than normal when I first got on the water.
I was in some shallow stuff last time out so I started to worry! By the end of the evening it was not coming out at all. I did not get a warning signal and the engine was operating fine, but I did proceed directly to the landing and got off the water.
I run a 4-stroke 115 Merc. Is there something I can do at home to see what's wrong or should I just take it in to a professional?
Thanks,
Eric

I would start by taking a fine wire and sticking it just inside of where the water normal exit.
A lot of times if I get into shallow water the impeller sucks up sand and clog's that pee hole. Normally by working a wire around in there while it's idling in the water I can dislodge some sand and it starts spitting water again. If that doesn't work I would unhook the hose and blow air though it lightly w/ the compresser, verifying that it's not plugged.

i've had the same thing happen to me after fishing shallow muck. i keep an emty 1 liter mt dew bottle in the boat, fill it with clean water, lightly thread into female thread around pee hole and back flush. worked for me the few times i've done it.

Works for me also, one thing pull the hose off were it connects to the pisser (smaller hole than the hose) and start the motor (with a water source of course) that also will blow any sand or weeds out.If then you still don't have any water, Houston we have a problem.

I'm pretty sure Jon Jordan's tip of the week, few days ago was to use weed whip line and push up into the drain line. Put the ear muffs on and test her out. If it works, store it in your boat.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I remembered that Jon had a tip for this, just could not remember the type of line/wire.

My Merc doesn't have any intake screen so it happens to me all the time. I use the wire on a bottom bouncer to poke into the bunghole. I check it every time I use the boat. So far it works every time. Even a tiny bit of weed plugs my hole!

Must be a 115 Merc thing. Martiv V has had it happen with his too. My Yamaha 115 has never done that even though I have run it (accidently) through some shallow mucky/sandy stuff. Sorry to hear your trip got cut short.

yea, I also have a 2002 115 merc 4-stroke, and this has happened to me a few times, better safe than sorry but do remember that the pee out of the engine is just an indicator for you to show it is moving water, if that line is blocked it does not mean that the engine isn't being cooled. I even froze mine last year over thanksgiving weekend chasing muskies, that is nerve racking..
