Cory,
Better start doing some curls to get your arms in shape.
If the fishing good, it's going to be something you need to experience to believe. Big time fun!
Long, hard runs from big Kings along with impressively high flying steelhead and deep, hard fighting lakers are all possible. Mix in a coho and a brown trout and you'll have a grand slam!
And when your done, you'll more than likely going to have plenty of fillets for the grill and the smoker.
Have fun!

jack, I read mike's report when he first posted it, and a nice read it was. I am going with a buddy who lives in Wausau and has a boat in Kewaunee's Salmon Harbor. He has been fishing salmon for 5 years or so over there. I am sure we will do fine but I was looking for some info on techniques, lures, depths anything that might help me not look like such a rookie thanks guys

Water temp is changing daily, in large amounts. So the fish are hard to keep track of. Riggers seem to be working the best right now. 80-120 fow is good. Shallower and higher, earlier and later in the day.

thanks whitetail, are we waiting for the water temp to stabilize? I hear lots of guys talking about water temp is it a thermocline that everyone is looking for?

I am leaving in 3 hours for three days of fishing in Kewaunee, so I will let you know. We have two boats (19 footers) that we bring with 3 guys each and last year ended up with 48 fish with a 25 pound king that is now on the wall (that would have won the KD Salmon Derby, but we fished the day after it closed). Later.

I am leaving in the morning for 4 days of fishing in Algoma/Kewaunee area. Will go back again 8/14-18 It's the highlite of my summer. Hope for some west winds and or stable weather- forescast doesn't look so great with the wind switching every day. I will be able to let you know what isn't working - that seems to be the only thing we ever figure out. LOL we sure have fun trying tho. Added a couple of new weapons this year so who knows maybe one of them will work. Tight lines and screamin drags, luv2rapala Andover, MN

Yes, all summer it was frigid water, so the fish were everywhere. Last week the water warmed 20 degrees in 2 days. But with the winds, it has been bouncing around a lot. No matter what the water temp, early and late get the lines higher, the kings will feed out of their preffered temp, in the low light times.

Wind direction was all over the map for us last week out of Rowley's Bay. Water temps were around 51 at 70 feet and 58 in the zone we caught most of our fish (45-55 feet down). Surface temp was 67 degrees. See the report I just posted for more info...
Good luck and be safe!

Algoma 7/30-8/5 Tuff 4 days for us, weather wasn't too bad but fishing (catching) was brutal. We boated 18 of 28 for the 4 days. Only thing we got to work was a glow green J-plug off a 2 color SWR 83 down - this one caught 1/2 of our fish. We are suppose to go back next week but I am thinking not unless we see some changes in the reports. I have my 17 yr old going this time and I want him in some action or he will never go with me again. Maybe have to do LOTW and riggin on some walleye or something??
