We've done 3 trips around Tomahawk Wisconsin. We've run out of restaurants. We're looking for a nice clear smallmouth lake for next year. We don't mind going from lake to lake, from day to day.
1. Clear water for a change 2. Smallies 3 Fine dining ( know how to make a martini!) 4. Walleye/crappie nearby or in the same lake.

I live in Minocqua and can answer a lot of those questions for ya. Just don't have a pile of time right now. SteveO's suggestion is a good one, but just about as far east as you can get in Vilas County. Are you planning on changing your location in terms of sleeping quarters or do you have a place to base out of in the Tomahawk area???

I think we'd stay put in one place, but a 20 minute drive from place to place is not a problem. Was thinking about Boulder Junction area. Just because. We're basically bass fisherfolks and Boulder looks like a musky destination,, so,, We'd have a few points to ourselves unlike down south.
But we're completely open. And we're just beginning to look. It is a vacation and we'll fish most of the time, but good restaurants, bike trails, museums,, thats what makes it a vacation.
THANKS!

Jim,
Fishing, restraunts, and bike trails we have! The mueseums, well lacking a bit on them.
Lots of great smallie waters all around the area. I focus on the big clear lakes most of the time. Lots of rocks, and gravel bars the smallies love. Big thing is to change your fishing style. Most of my fish all summer long come from 25-50fow. A lot of these same areas hold walleye once the lights go out. The eyes will suspend over the deeper water then move up on thee bars to feed around dark, or later. Gin clear water usally means go deep. Walleyes normally mean after dark.
The big pitfall I see with a lot of people is working the shallow water shorelines. Yes, you will catch fish in these areas. Here though you will most of the time be lucky to have a 12" size average. Lots of 8-10's. At least during the summer months.
Well the crow is cawing so it's time to hit the water.
