Cookie cutter kitties

#698971 - 08/09/08 08:35 AM

Jake(Chambers Champs)and I got out for a couple hours last night. I like fishing with Jake. He always has good stories and a 12 box of something interesting. The bites were slow to come again this time but when they come it is usually a good fish. We had a few light bites early and missed them. These few we got a barb into. The bigger ones were both just shy of 31 inches. I'll go home happy with that average any day. water temp was 80 degrees, fishing right in the weeds with Sonny's Blood. Hey Matt, Want to trade a channel cat outing for a flat chase?

Nice fish, Kev. I was out last night too but ended 7 hours of channel chasing with a big "Zero". I'm having a hard time finding fish right now - It must be my bait - I just may switch to Sonny's Blood. Do you put a clothespin on your nose when you use that stuff?

That's one heck of a cookie cutter!

Steve, I've never used the blood...but I'll leave the regular Sonny's open in the boat when I'm alone. The smell of cheesy vomit has a certain appeal.

I stopped "gobbing" Sonny's on after the owner said it wasn't needed...and after a little stuck in my hair one night. Funny thing was that I didn't notice it, but the FW made me aware faster than I could climb into bed.

Wow, I wish we had that cookie cutter last night. We were out from 6 til 4, with 1 channel for the pair of us.

I get the pail and I use a long stick to poke my bait into it and try not get it all over. It doesn't smell that bad and you can always put the lid on. Still a slow night. I like to see 6-10 a night. 3 fish over 6 hrs is a long time to wait. The Brewer game helps to pass the time a bit.

Not sure it would work for you - last night we got a 14lb channel cat during our "flat chase" and came up empty on the flatheads.

Thanks for getting me out Kevin, I had a great time. We were slacking on the beer, there were a couple left in the cooler when i cleaned it out this morning. We gotta get out for the cats a coupla more times this summer.

I'll talk to ya in a couple of weeks when I get back from WA.

BTW, thanks for the pickles, they look good.

CC, you are welcome. Have a good trip. Matt, I've been catfishing for 20 years and understand the difference between fishing and catching. My schedule is pretty tight for the rest of this season. I'd be game for a home and away next season though.
