Oahe, August 9

Oahe is really fishing well right now. I was out on Saturday with my dad and son and we had a great morning on the water. We put in at Cow Creek and ran up to Mailshack and had fish on within five minutes. We were dragging crawlers behind bottom bouncers and caught fish from 50 to 20 fow. We boated one very fat 22 incher and lost another one like it right at the boat. All of our fish were very fat and were coughing up shad.

Hats off to the SD GFP for how they manage the fishery. There appear to be plenty of fish in each year class, so the future looks great for trophies and eaters.

P.S. With the full moon soon here, the evening/night plug bite on Oahe should be fantastic. Peoria Flats, Sully Flats, and even near West Shore boat ramp ought to produce a lot of fish.

Very true, the slot allows you to get your eaters and leaves room for a trophy if you so wish with everything between 20" and 28" protected. The smelt and shad are so plentiful walleyes are shaped like footballs.

Nice report

Good to hear the fish are still on the chew out there! My brief experience there left me with the same impression that the fishery is in great shape and will only get better.
