Where to fish walleyes mid- September

#700952 - 08/18/08 07:34 AM

So a friend and I are look for a new trip this fall in either northern Minnesota, Greenbay or UP and I was wondering if anybody had some ideas for big walleyes. Seems like that can be a tough time of year. Have been going into Canada for a long time in September and do alright but looking to stay south of the border this year just for a new experience. Any suggests would be apperciated. Thanks !

I just got back from Rainy Lake. My report might give ya some input. No doubt the other bodies of water you mentioned can be spectacular as well. But Rainy to me was all the good things that canadian fishing has to offer without the traveltime.

Rainy. I just got back last night after a three day stay. The walleye fishing was incredible (almost easy) with large numbers of 22 - 25 inch walleyes, along with plenty of "eaters," willing to take a whack at spinner rigs behind bouncers.

Plus there's always the occasional accidental pike to keep things interesting too. This one taped 40" and after seeing all the big bait hanging around the reefs I'm sure bigger fish are available.
