Huge suckers for Cat's/Muskies/Pike

#702270 - 08/24/08 09:01 AM

I used some suckers from Bob Moore's Bait and Tackle in Mpls yesterday.

They were HUGE and lively! I know we have cooler weather...but not one died and at one point it darn near took 4 of use to wrestle one down to get the hook into it!

If you're having trouble finding large...truly large suckers...check in with Bob.

I'll second that! I've gotten some brutes from him and I transport them in the truck with an aerator using only a 5-gallon bucket. This was during a hot day and I fully expected to have to battle keeping them alive by agitating the water. I usually bring a worm container or cup to scoop up water and pour it back in from a height that will splash and break up the water, which temporarily boost the oxygen exchange. It's better than dumping his clean water and exchanging it with river or lake water. I don't have one of those fancy bucket aerators, which you can find at Bob Moore's Bait . Anyways, I never loose a sucker in the bucket and I don't have to agitate the water much at all, maybe every half hour. They'll sit on the bottom until the oxygen levels drop to where they start moving up to the top or poking their heads up at the surface. Then I agitate the water with a dozen or so scoop and pours and they are content.

Pug, I asked Bob what he used to keep them so "spunky", salt? water conditioner?

He looked at me with his sober face and said...."I treat them with love".

I'm thinking when he gets and order in, he greets each one personally.
