State Fair pond

I was at the fair for way too long staring at the fish and they put a mirror carp in there this year. It was nice to see one in person finally. They also had-shortnose gar- bigmouth buffalo- silver redhorse- paddlefish I think that was all the odd species they had in there.

Just thought I would give a heads up for any of you wanting to see the mirror carp. Also to hear all the wrongly ID'd fish that people say One guy said look at that channel cat......it was a sturgeon that was my entertainment for the day.

One of my favorite things to do at Cabela's, too I heard one guy tell his son that the sturgeon was a musky

When I worked at a resort up on Leech there was a guy up there that had me clean about 5000 rock bass for him. He insisted to his family that they were crappies...

Wrong IDs are hilarious. It makes you wonder have they just heard the names of these fish and never seen them? I always hear people incorrectly identifying fish at the fair. It's even better if they break out into some story of how they caught a big one. Sure, you don't know what it is, but apparently you caught the world record.

I had heard a story down at the power dam on Lake Zumbro. These guys were fishing from shore and apperently were having a great day. They went back to get some more bait, and told the guy they had Northerns stacked up on the shore. Bait shop guy has to see this so heads back with them only to see 10 - 15 dog fish laying on the shore.

When I was a kid the neighborhood would go camping for a week together at Park Rapids. Me and a couple of buddies when back in the woods to this creek and we were nailing the crappies. We thought the adults were going to be impressed with our catch. We ended up being told to get rid of the rock bass we just brought back. The turtles and crayfish were happy for the free meal.

My excuse is I was 8.
