Fish house travel?

#703185 - 08/27/08 01:14 PM

Okay so we have a mini-van (and yes I still have my man card) anyway, this summer found a great deal on an Otter Lodge, here's my question what are some ideas on traveling with it? I know it fits with the seats folded down or taken out, however; the family wouldn't be able to come with.

I don't think it would fit on a cargo carrier that attaches to the hitch, so any trailer ideas particular size I should look for? Has anyone every tied one to the luggage rack on top of a van or suv? For a trailer I really don't want to spend too much so any ideas?

No, no you don't. Don't be upset, but the mini-van trumps the card.....it's the rules.

I'm sure someone will chime in with an actually useful comment.......

I used to put my old 2 man trap on the luggage rack of my Explorer. I think you'd get away doing that, but you'd definately need 2 people for that due to its weight.

Here is an economical trailer.

I have seen a Clam X hauled around on one those luggage carriers that attatch to your hitch. Sportsmans Whse has one that is 24" x 60" and a 500 lb wait limit for about 100 bucks.

I was thinking about one of those but I think mine is too long and would stick out too far from the side of the vehicle....

Okay so it does and I had a pretty much a mid-life crisis the day we got it and my pick-up went bye bye...but I would not trade my 2 kids for anything....but still...guess the family can't come with....

I worked with a guy a few years ago that bought an old piece of junk pop up camper prety cheap. He striped the camper off of the frame, bought some new tires and wheels. Put a channel runner on it and had a totally functional dirt bike trailer for a couple hundred bucks.

But it might not look right being pulled by a mini van. Start looking at Craigs list

Good luck

You could look around for a old used snowmobile trailer and then build sides on it. As for the minivan, I have a Chevy Astro minivan and love it.
Thanks, Bill

I'd start watching craigslist as well...you can pick up a decent little trailer for cheap. Your going to need the trailer anyway, after a season of pulling that tank by hand your going to want a atv!
