Advice: Minn Kota Terrova

#703329 - 08/27/08 09:34 PM

Looking at a new-to-me Minn Kota 24V 80lb 54" Minn Kota bow-mount (2007 model), US2, Terrova.
Issues?
Positives, negatives?
Repair or breakdown issues?

Thanks.

I have a 2008 80lb and absolutely love it. However, i have had troubles with the pedal. The large part that ressembles a cable drive footpedal has been an issue for me. I love this feature, however, pushing up on the pedal (turn right) semingly only works when it pleases (and now doesnt at all). It had been an issue since day one so i am guessing that it is this specific motor/pedal and not the model. Over all though i am extremely pleased with the rest of the motor.

the only prob that I have seen is loose screws that hold the release mechanism on for when its in the up position
If you have one of these motors check the 2 screws that thread into the aluminium plates through the little c shaped pieces in the front that hold the lower part of the motor when in the up position, you have to take the side plates off to do this, so do it on land because if they are loose then the only thing holding them on is the plastic side plates it's kind of a pain in the but better than having parts fall off when running from spot to spot.

Minn Kota could have used some Loc-tite on this one

Other than that it's a great motor and the remote is great when pulling cranks

I don't have the Terrova, I have a Maxxim but it has the US2 and I am having trouble with it. Several other people have also just do a search. The footage reading on my fish finder seems to jump from to deep to shallow, some days it will jump from 8 to 25 feet others it might jump from 14 to 44. It seems to be in the trolling motor, if I put my 787 on the other head it works fine but when I put it back on the US2 head it goes haywire.

Minn Kota US 2 disappointment

Like I said it is a Maxxim and your US2 wireing might be different

Good luck

Iam having the same issue with mine. Pushing the toe of the heel/toe steering doesn't always respond. Luckily there are right/left arrows and I have the co-pilot. Everything else works.Had an appointment to get it looked at and the guy wasn't there...

Footpedals & Minnkota have had there moments no doubt.

With that said, the performance & ease of use of the Terrova vs th PD models is flat out much improved in my opinion.

I have the Terrova and like it overall. Need to keep the sand and dirt out of the pedal (easily cleaned), and the foot release on the mount is a bit finicky (sticky, does not always like to release easily). Other than that, I like it!
