a very, very nice day on Pool 8...

I had the chance to fish with John Stears , aka riverfan, yesterday on pool 8.. We had a very nice mixed bag of fish.. but I was very impressed with the grade of fish that we caught.. when you rip your thumb on the first bass of the day, its gonna be a very nice day... we had fish in the 16 to 18 inch catagory all day.. and while they weren't "stacked" fish.. no matter what we did or where we went we caught something.. Be it a fine size pike, or white bass or smallies or largemouths..

John, I personally want to thank you for showing the c- rig on water that I am very used to fishing..

and I really appreciated out intelligent discussion about fishing in general. You really opened my eyes and added another technique for my arsenal.

I would get in the boat with you in a New York Minute..

and guys if you really want to fish with a top notch guy, John is it. a marvelous guy to talk to, who listens, is willing to teach and willing to learn..

and you will learn something every time you fish with John.. even if its just polishing a few edges..

Thanks again buddy, it was a great day..

well John you will be happy to know that I raided Gander this evening and bought $30 worth of those mojo sinkers.. ( they were still on sale).. and I spend most of my day in analyzing what we did or didn't do and the actual depth of the areas that we fished.

It was like you turned my world upside down in depth knowledge.. what I believed was right was wrong, and what was wrong was right..

my wife and I discussed the day, and like she said, even in her job of 11 years, there is always someone out there to show you something new..

and with me, you can teach an old dog a new trick.. or an ol' rat...

willie.. How is that swim jig going for you?

Let me give you one little tip that may put you over the top... the next bass that you catch.. take your jig, even if you didn't catch that bass on a jig, and rub it in its mouth and once or twice along its side..

I had a complete jig rookie out with me two weeks ago,, I did that to his jig after I caught my first bass..

at the end of the day, I had to put a new skirt on his jig. the bass that he caught WORE THE OLD ONE OFF..

thanks for asking...have been tearing them up this summer on the Horny Toad...but ran into a friend of mine on a local lake a few weeks ago...he'd been hammering on a swim jig (to the tune of about 50 bass)...I'm still struggling, but will follow up on the helpful tip...know it's at least one part confidence on my part...the baits just plain work...

and it's getting to the time of year where the heavy weed matts start to break down/apart around here...so the fish start to get 'loosely' associated but roam a bit more...

my Nephew put that horny toad on the back of his swim jig.. but he wasn't getting bit. so I switched out to that ole Mister Twister type which has much softer and longer legs.. IMMEDIATELY he got bit.. I mean the next cast...

Thank's Uncle Bob... was what I got... and it made me feel real good..
