Bunk Board Reolacement

#703760 - 08/29/08 12:49 PM

I need to replace the bunk boards on my trailer. I'm going to Prefab the new one's at home 1st and then take the boat to the lake and beach it while I replace the boards. I have a few ?'s
1. What type of carpet do you use and where can you get it?
2. Is it necessart to Glue the carpete to the boards or will just stapleing it work. If glue is necessary - What type
3. Is stainless bolts and Staples necessary?
4. What size staples do I need and what type of stapler is needed?

Any other Info. you have for me would be much appreciated.

Unless you have a glass boat or you have an aluminum painted hull then I would high recommend not even wasting your time on carpeting your bunks and consider these. I am absolutely amazed with these EZ Glide slicks, so slick that you need to keep your boat hooked up when you back it down. If interested I can take pictures of my bunk setup tomorrow.

I do have a glass boat. I'm thinking about adding some of these slides on the new boards

It's getting close to carpet replacement time for me too. I would like very much to see pics of your bunk boards and glides.
Thanks

What he said, they do NOT recommend these for glass boats.

I replaced my 4 bunks a few years ago on my old boat and trailer.
pushed the boat off at a public ramp, and tied it off on the dock, and drove up to the parking lot, and did the trailer bunk job.
think it was 2 X 6's, that I had precut to length,
used an indoor/outdoor carpet that I got from a boat dealer,
layed the boards on the carper, folded it over on each side, think I used staples, and galvanized roofing nails to tack the carpet on.
added the trailer hardware, tighened it all up,
and backed it up, put the boat back on, and drove home.
worked great, and didn't take too long.
good luck,
Jack

I did the same as Jack (I only had 2 to do)
Except I did mine by jacking my boat up off the trailer with a floor jack....first one side...then the other.
It worked great.
