We're heading up there this weekend, and I've never fished it before. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/spots they might like to share! Thanks- Greg

I've fished fertile Myrtle a few times in past years. Some nice crappies and Bluegills to be had. Also some decent pike roaming around. Not fishing it as of late I'd suggest you would likely find the slabs over deep breaks suspended. Pike are close by as they love to eat crappies.
Have a great trip!

Hi Greg,
Fished it many times. Not the biggest fish in the area but it's a pretty reliable lake, you always seem to catch something. And it has everything: Pike, Walleyes, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Bluegills, Crappies, and perch.
Be careful coming out of the small bay where the access is, stay in the channel so you avoid the rocks.
As you come out into the main part of the lake, there will be a large bay on your left. It's probably going to be full of weeds this time of year. The holes and edges are good places to look for Bass especially if there's any wood or big rocks nearby. The far end of that bay (on the south side of the lake) has a point that has the deepest water in the lake out in front of it. Everybody knows that spot and it gets hit hard so don't spend all day there. I've had good luck fishing Walleyes this time of year pulling crankbaits. Crappies are pretty agressive and will hit jigs or Beetle Spins. I've also had luck dragging jigs right on the bottom for Crappies. Keep moving until you find them. The North side of that lake has several small sand bottomed bays that aren't worth fishing....stay out in the main part of the lake and fish the weed clumps and rocks.
I wish I was going with you, Myrtle is a fun lake!

Thanks to both you guys! Myrtle wasn't our first, or even second choice0 we were going to go to Pelican but the resort owner is very ill, and Elephant is too full for our group. So Myrtle it is. I am always up for a challenge, but I truly appreciate the tips from you guys! Keep 'em coming! Now if we can just fast-forward through the week.....

I thought I'd give you guys an update on how the trip was- in a word it was FANTASTIC! Here's a picture of yours-truly with the largemouth that won the second contest and weighed in at 4.92 pounds. My personal best, by the way. My fishing partner won the first contest with a 4.20# largemouth. All in all we weighed in several largemouth over 3-1/2#, a couple smallmouth over 2-1/2#. There was a 28-1/2" walleye caught Thursday before the contest (bummer). Nothing real big as far as walleyes or northerns, but we did get into crappies (biggest was .96#) and sunfish (also .96#). All in all, the trip was great! The 10 of us that went had an awesome time at the newly-opened bar and grill and we'll definitely be going back. It's also important to note that our group, being conservation-minded sportsmen, released alive every single bass caught, and kept a handful of smaller panfish to eat.
