Minnkota 24V Vantage Problem

#704467 - 09/02/08 08:18 PM

I have a Minnkota 24V Vantage motor. It will run on level 4-5 for about an hour before the batteries are down to nothing. I have checked my batteries and connections and they are all good. This afternoon I found that it is pulling .04 amps when it is plugged in to the twist lock plug. when I unplug it there is no amps. I have checked both sides of the twist lock plug and found nothing. Do I have an internal problem with the motor or am I missing something? Any other ideas would help.

thanks

One of the first things I would check is the size wire being used, and how long the run is from you battery to the trolling motor. If you have 16-18 gauge wire, that could be your problem. Thin wire means a lot of energy is being lost to the wiring, and the longer the run of wire, the worse. Also, just check to make sure both your batteries are good. If one went bad, that could be the problem as well.
