Don't buy the ones at Cabelas. They work for a little while and then crack after only a couple of uses.

Down-East makes a great durable cast metal clamp on rod holder. Have rail clamp style now on my ranger, but I had 4 on a Alumacraft I used to own. Very tough also. Used to troll Lake Michigan for Sammys and bows with that alumacraft. Ran everything from dipseys to leadcore, to wire and yellowbirds with the gunnel clamp style. Just take off a little tension and pull straight up and rod comes right out. No losing touch with the fish. Best holders in the world.

I'll second the negative vote on the cabelas ones. I bought 4 and 3 of them broke before the first season was over and I'm not a full time troller.

Trumar, ask Dean at Everts about the Folbe's and how to attach them.

In a couple Friday's from now, you'll be a Folbe lover!

These were made for Sturgeon and Salmon. I tried one for a week guiding and now I have replaced all of my holders with the Advantage.

Check'em out next time your at Everts.

I run Down East also. Spendy at $35.00 each but are made of metal and will last a lifetime.

If you troll for big fish I would say Down East will make you very happy.

I run 4 of them on my boat and won't use anything but the Folbe's. Dean set me up after I lost two sticks via the other mfrs' rod holders. $35 is money in the bank after you lose a stick or two to a lesser quality holder.

if you or a friend has a small welder you may want to try something like i just finished. i went over to harbor freight tools and bought some c-clamps and welded a plate to them. drilled some holes in the plate and ran some bolts through to attach my scotty bases. plenty heavy enough and very portable. i'm pretty cheap though
