Where to launch on st croix?

#705341 - 09/06/08 11:50 AM

Never fished the st. croix before. Are some stretches generally considered better for sturgeon? Where do you recomend launching?

Thanks alot.

Pretty much exactly what I'd like to know, I've always launched at the bluff's, but I planned on sturgeon fishing much further north.

There is three launches in Hudson, one south of Hudson behind Troy Burne golf course, one or two Marinas in Afton to launch from, a launch in Lakeland at Beanies, a public launch and 2 marinas in bayport, and the public launch at the Boom site in Stillwater . I think that is the most of them

Good spots for sturgeon are the Prescott Narrows, the Kinny Narrows, and pretty much the whole stretch from Hudson to Stillwater.

You asked for a recommendation - If you are fishing the Stillwater / Bayport / Hudson stretch of water one of the best ramps is Beach House Marina in Bayport. It costs $10 from Monday to Thursday and $20 Friday to Sunday. It is a little spendy but it puts you right in the middle of the sturgeon grounds. Here is the link to their website:

Beach House Marina, Bayport, MN

Steve I drove by there the other day, looks like a nice little launch, but I can't for the life of me figure out the parking situation there I wanted to stay out late like 1-2 am there is a bunch of info about overnight parking, just wondering if anyone's used it and what thier expeince was.

I planned to give them a call too, so I'll see what they say I would kind of guess I'd be just fine parkingright there this time of year.
