yamaha F115 problems

#705482 - 09/07/08 08:33 AM

We just bought a 2004 lund fisherman with an 04 F115 yamaha. The engine starts fine and runs at low rpms fine, but as soon as you go WOT it bogs down and won't plain off. I have heard they have injector problems. Also where is the fuel filter on this engine? I can't find any diagrams anywhere on this. Thanks guys.

Never heard of any injector problems with those engines, sounds like a a rumor, run a ring frre product though, the injectores are very small and may plug.

There is a water seperater on the back of the engine block, possible restriction in the fuel line, is the squeeze bulb sucking flat?

it could be the temp sensor. my 115 evinrude did the same thing. as soon as i disconnected it ran like a dream. just something to try, good luck, dan

Yes, it is true, they do have injectors go down. I have first hand experience with that. If the RPM's drop off from say 6000-5900 WOT down to say 4100-4500, then it's the injectors as long as every thing else seems to operate fine.

I don't know if the injectors are problematic, but my friends, parents Yamaha 115 had a couple injectors go bad as well...

If you don't have a seperate fuel filter installed, besides the one on the engine, it could be part of your problem.

Yeah that is exactly what mine is doing. I don't think i can even hit 6k in rpms. It hovers around 4-4500k. So i know its not at full potential. These new 4-strokes are really starting to irritate me. My 03 Honda had nothing but troubles with jets getting clogged. I might have to invest in a separate water/fuel separator. I put new plugs in it and a new fuel filter. I found where it was. No changes. I did also dump in a half can of sea foam and that seemed to help for a short time and then it got worse. I can't even hit plain now. I also thought about the temp sending unit, thinking that maybe it was causing the motor to de-rate power. Its going into the dealer tomorrow and we'll see what they say. Its under warranty so hopefully i don't have to pay for anything.

I got my boat back yesterday and the dealer said that because i added seafoam that it needed to sit in the fuel system for a while. When they put it on their dyno it was sluggish but then slowly got better i guess. They did end up cleaning the injectors and they said it runs like new now. So this weekend i will take it out and try it again. So thanks to all those who replied. Keep your injectors clean. I also had them install a 10 micron fuel/water separator for extra protection.
