RAM Marine Spotlight ?

#705506 - 09/07/08 10:28 AM

I'd like to get a fixed mount spotlight for the boat and
ATV. I'm looking at the RAM and was curious if anyone
can give me any feedback on them.
Here is the one I'm looking at.

Is there a better one out there for the money?

Thanks,

Dan

The light itself is much less effective than a good handheld. But the hands free aspect is pretty handy at times depending on your needs.

Dan, as a 95% night time fisherman...

The trouble with fixed mounted lights is they need to be adjusted while on plane..since most people mount them towards the front of their boats, this means someone has to go to the front to adjust it while moving. The safest place to be in a boat is in your seat.

If you're just going to use it as a "docking" light, it's not a big deal and will work ok...but it's still going to need position adjustment because of the boats weight distribution.

There are remote control lights out there for around $250. last time I checked...but I haven't found the need to spend that kind of ching yet.

A good cordless rechargeable light is fast and convenient but often too heavy for a boat ride at night.

I have two corded lights, one as a back up and I'm planning on adding a cordless for the time we are anchored.

Just my 02...other results may vary.

Not a very bright light. Durable yes. It takes getting banged around. Good for docking/trailering and netting fish. Not good for running speeds.

I can't see crap at night, I think a handheld is the only option for me. My boat is on plane at about 30 mph I need to keep moving the light so I know I'm in the clear. It would've been nice for docking and loading though, thats pretty tough with a spotlight. I looked into a spotlight thing that plugged into the front navigation plug that would work pretty nice i think for docking too, wouldn't do you much good on a ATV though, they were also really spendy!

Thanks for the replies fellas!!

I guess I should have stated that it will be used
primarily for docking and loading.

I do have a cheapo corded spotlight that requires
a third hand to use and when that third hand is
in the truck it makes it kind of difficult.

Thanks again!
