I am looking at getting into a new boat this fall. Currently it seems like the Alumacraft Navigator 175 tiller may be my choice. I am concerned about top end speed and motor horsepower rating. I currently am running an 08 75 HP Yammie which is max for this boat. One thing that caught my eye was the 165 is also rated for a 75 HP Max. 38 gallon fuel tank and a 32 and 16 gallon live well along with the same MAX HP rating as the 165 got me worried about the max HP of 75 being a dog. Does anyone currently run this model with a newer 75 Yammie and what are you getting for top end? Also what are your likes and dislikes of this rig?
I have a 2004 Nav 175T but I just purchased this rid with an older 50hp. I am looking to upgrade in the spring and was looking at the 75's. My boat (2004) is max rated for an 80hp.
I have to say I love the layout and the size for fishing with my 2 young sons. It also trailers well behind my Explorer but it's about the biggest thing I would pull behind it.
With my 1994 50 hp I was getting about 26mph (gps speed) yesterday on lake Pepin with all gear, empty livewells and 1/2 take of gas (I have a 40 gal tank). I am hoping that a 75 might give me about an extra 10 mph but not sure given that I will also be adding more than 100#.
I have the exact same boat and have touched 33mph by myself. Otherwise, loaded down with three people both livewells full and a half a tank of gas it does around 28-30mph. I've never had a full tank of gas in it because it's so fuel efficient. I'll PM you with other details.
Hey Joey. I have the 175 Navigator console model and really like the boat. Tons of room and storage. Nate has been running the 165 Navigator tiller with a 60 hp and a 9.9 kicker and really likes it. I have fished in his boat alot and its really nice. Personally I would go for the 175 cause its bigger and has the double haul all the way back. Give Ken or Butch at Smittys a call 1-651-345-3990 and tell them Nate and I sent you. Thanks, Bill
