I'm new to Minnesota and the Twin Cities. I moved from Western ND where I spent many days chasing eyes on Sakakawea. I'm interested in crappie fishing on the St. Croix. I've never fished crappie before and am seeking any decent locations (I've heard the Bluffs is an excellent launch), methods, tips, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I look forward to many years of good MN fishing!
Welcome to IDO! You will often find crappies on the WI side of the river south of the Kinni narrows. They often suspend there and can be caught dragging twisters or corking minnows.
Welcome. Great to have you with us. Please feel free to share and post all you want. I don't know anything myself about crappies on the St Croix but I'm sure others will provide info also. Thanks Chris for the info for him. Thanks, Bill
if you do put in at the bluffs, as you come out of the harbor look just south on the wis. side and you will see a big white sign on shore, that would be a good place to start or try any downed tree you find in the water. been getting a few crappies lately. seems drop shotting has worked best. good luck
welcome to IDO, most recently we have found them on slip bobbers relatively close to shore in 18ft with fat heads. We will and always try riggin or crankin for eyes but if we get 1 or 2 slabs we will set up some slips and usually can get some to go.
welcome. I've had luck with crappies in the bluffs area as well. After launching from the bluffs, head over to the wisconsin side of the river and head north. a little ways up (before hitting thie kinni) you'll run into a few docks. if you have a locator, look for schools of baitfish. I've had excellent luck in that area recently, with the last stringer being 17 crappies (limit of 25) over 9 inches, and 5 of those being over 10.5, with the largest 13.5 inches. It was a blast.

This was a decent spot last week or even go a little farther south. As said, look for downed trees. The spot that kingfisher mentioned was hot when he was out with me three weeks ago but hasn't produced well since then.
Where are you from in ND? I'm from Bismarck. I'd be up for taking a fellow ND boy out to show you around the river. Email me at s_e_hendricks@comcast.net. My seats are filled this weekend, but I can get you out sometime. If you do launch out of the bluffs, email me and at least we could meet up and you can follow me around if you want.
