I would like to extend a personal apology to Earl Klund and to the St Croix Forum users. I made a stupid mistake in my posting a thread on the Beanies River Rat Forum post by posting a picture of Earl that was uncalled for. I don't know Earl Klund, I just pulled the picture off the Beanies website to make my point on the thread. I did not intend for it to be a personal attack on any person and if it was perceived that way I apologize. Earl is well known and respected on the St Croix forum and I did not mean to tarnish his reputation or challenge his conduct in any way. The handling of that fish was common practice at that time and he was following the procedures for registering a fish that he was proud of. It won him the contest. The last thing I want to do is diminish something that he should be proud of. Earl - I apologize.
I'm having a bad day all around. I've been trying to clean up my thread and in the process deleted the entire Beanies River Rat Tourney post. Now I have to figure out how to fix that too.
To the St Croix forum users I don't want to create any more tension for our forum. I wish I had not ever posted but I'm a little late for that. I apologize to all of you and promise to clean up my act. I need to get up and walk away from the computer a little more often.
Now I'll go and try to fix the Beanies River Rat Tourney posting.

ahhh we all do things we wish we hadn't.
I'll say that I have been around Steve quite a bit and his attitude is great! When a person has a passion for a fish no matter the species it can be personal seeing one harvested or mistreated. (Mistreatment only needs to be implied)
Steve your a good guy!

Steve, I know your intentions were in the right spot on this. The River Rat is a good event for a good cause, it maybe just needs to change with the times a little. I hope they agree and get an even better turnout this year.
Earl-suck your pride up and apologize to that catfish

Steve,
Don't sweat it. No real offense was taken. I was just a bit suprised to see a photo of myself used to make your point. Especially given that I try to avoid controversy on this site.
I think Swervy had good point - call up Gary at Beanies and suggest making it easier to wiegh and release those fish. Maybe even ask that they emphasis proper catch and release for weighed fish. Gary is a reasonable fella and I'm sure a phone call is more effective than blogging any day.
Hopefully I will be able to make the Rat this year with Dude Hale as my partner. If so, look out Turk. And I hope we see you there Steve.
Have a fishy weekend,
Earl

I forgot to add for the record-
When I hooked that fish, Dude and I were in the thick of it for the walleye contest as we already had a few nice eyes in the box. I don't recall if we placed or not, but we were within reach.
As soon that cat was landed, we put it in the livewell and went directly to Beanies and wieghed it. I believe it was mid morning - we didn't haul it around all day. It was only a short run over there, but it easily cost us a half hour or more in a contest we really wanted to win. The walleye part that is. The wieghing part of the whole process (the part I had no control over) was less than ideal as the picture shows, but the fish was released immediatly after wieghing and swam away strong.
I had forgotten all about this whole deal but for some reason its all coming back to me.

Yes but you still dragged it behind the boat! J/k.
Steve, Don't worry, you didn't cause any problems from what I saw... Big man to apologize though. Turk
