Was out from the minnesota confluence up to the dam twice in last week including saturday evening. Earlier in the week the whitetips (no monsters but a few 20's) were hitting jig/crawler on seams and a few nice smallies and channels thrown in too. Last night just one dinker and one smallie. Got a nice drench as a storm passed through. Man its kinda depressing to see all the plastic that comes down the sewers when you get a nice downpour...right into the river. We spent some time netting out the big stuff....but the amount is overwhelming.
Water temp was 66. Wanted to get further downstream today but too soggy days in a row kept me indoors eating chilli. Any reports from down river are welcome.
Nice report, Yeah the trash it's pretty depressing, I can only hope the trend to build ponds for the water to drain into before it hits the water, continues onto rivers....
I wish the city had come up with a plan to catch all that trash when they seperated the sewer from the street drains. This really is a big problem that needs to get fixed!
Yep, that trash floats downstream and into the ocean where it collects in areas called gyres....which is basically a huge oceanic whirlpool. There is one in the Pacific the size of Texas where there is a huge concentration of bottles, etc. Im pretty passionate about that stuff and I'll stop preaching here...but first I'll say there is an organization committed to keeping it clean called Friends of the Mississippi. My fishin buddy Karl and I committed for one year to keep the Dayton landing picked up...which basically amounts to us doing a five minute walk-around with a trash bag every time we put in up there. Super easy. If your interested the site is www.fmr.org. I'll get off my stinkin soap-box now so we can talk about fishin! J
Out again last night for two hours. Recent rains have increased flow in that narrow part of the river just enough to move fish around a bit. Was able to hook up with one whitetip and one smallie casting a #5 JSR. Wish i had my camera with for two reasons... 1) the full harvest moon coming up over the river was awesome..and 2) i was boating upstream when i saw something that looked like a muskrat swimming across the channel....when i got up close i saw it was a squirrel! didnt know they were such accomplished swimmers...but he was moving along like michael phelps!
Water temp still 66...never thought i'd be wishing for colder temps.
