After a quiet upper pool 4 catfish night on the river lastnight I tried to heat things up by fishing the Winona area today for walleyes.
Arrive around 8 am, with only 2 boats in site I didnt have a good feeling that things have started down there yet for the fall "rush"..
We stayed on the main channel from the dam down to the bridge every where we stopped or drifted to we caught fish ,the quanity was there but just no quality to them ,all except 1 barely made the 13" mark ,which was a 4.5 lb pike(supper ) .Still more saugers than walleyes around 30 fish total 3 being walleyes but we kept busy by dragging ,vertical jigging and even a little trolling. Our bait was limited to just crawlers and crankbaits, all in all we had a good time and much waiting for the COLDER weather to really set things on fire on the river.
Keep your rods bent ,Jeff

We really need the return of the cool nights to get things hopping. It would only take a couple at this point... we're sooooo close.
Thanks for the report.
