This was not my first rodeo and I certainly did not see justification for his reaction two sides maybe but handle it professionally. Dont know this guy from Adam but my first impression was not a good one.
Not saying you are right or wrong...but no name and only 4 posts and you are slamming a guy without disclosing who the other guy was and what caused it?
How about a little more info? I would hate to see anyones name tarnished much less a friend of mine.
Would be nice to see you post your name as you are taking a one-sided shot at me. I view myself as one of the most professional anglers out on the tour and can line up references in support of this claim as required.
I don't feel as if I owe you an explanation but since you have taken the guilty until proven innocent stance here you go. The incident you are referring to happened at Day 2 at Cass Lake and I confronted the one-time event boater who happens to be a guide on lake/area. I was anchored up pitching a weed edge he drove right over the top of where I was pitching - within 30' of my boat (between me and shore). I was shouting and waving my arms for him to go around my boat but he just looked and me and drove right over where I was fishing - not real professional. The fish promptly shut down and I was not able to pull another fish that AM after getting my limit there first thing on day 1. So I found him after day 3 weigh in and read him the riot act about how to act at the tour level and reminded him this is not the bush league of fishing.
I will ask you this - how would you have handled the situation? I had a championship berth on the line and to fish the tour for a year cost on average $20K plus the cost of new equipment (boat, motors, gear, vehicle wear and tear, etc.) not to mention time away from work and my family.
That's the real situation; now pass your judgment all you want.
Ted I agree with you.It really should not matter what kind of tourney you are fishing. Respect is respect and if someone does this they do need to be let known about their faults. I do have a good idea on who you are talking about. I could name many pro's that sat next me fishing during the league event and showed no courtesy what so ever, I did not say a word to them, I just did not move out of my path to accomidate them either. It is a two way street out their. I do think you are a stand up guy.
Ted~ Don't let one poster discourage you. I fished with you on day 3 at Pierre and you are 100% professional!!! I had a great time in your boat and hope you enjoyed having me with you!
Championship was a great time, I wish I would of had a little more luck during the tournament, but I was out there 4 days prefishing and that was fun. Hopefully be back at the championship next year. I'm shooting for Co-Angler of the year next summer!
Great points guys, it's about professionalism, ethics and treating other how you expect to be treated when on the water - wheather in a tournament or not.
Interesting thing about Day 2 at Cass was when I arrived at my spot there were two local boats rigging on it - I idled in slowly and asked the boats if they minded if I could drop anchor and cast for 45 minutes, fully prepared to leave and hit another area if they said no. They said no problem as they had watched me yesterday from shore catch fish there and came out to fish it becasue of that. Do I own the water just because I am fishing a tournament - absolutely not! The three boats worked the area for a bit and then we eached moved on. As an angler I would hope the same courtesy would be extended nomatter whos in whatever boat.
Phil it was alot of fun having you in the boat at Sharpe and I hope we can fish together again next year - good luck on your goal! I have met a lot of great co's over the years have enjoyed spending the day in the boat getting to know them and learning from each other.
