Any general info putting the boy and I in the vacinity of fish and set ups/tactics that are working would be MUCH APPRECIATED. Not trying to crowd your hotspots...just want to see my son catch some fish.
My son is autistic and does not get excited about much...put a fish on the end of his line and he comes alive! It's a beautiful thing-

Good Morning!!
Welcome to the Rainy Lake forum as well as In Depth Outdoors. Camping facilities are somewhat limited unless you camp in Voyageurs National Park. There are many beautiful campsites that are within VNP's boundaries. VNP is only accessible via water. You can also check with Camp Idlewood and Arnolds campgrounds. Nights can be pretty frosty this time of year, so consider that before pitching the tent. Might not be a bad idea to get a resort/hotel room for a couple nights for depending on personal comfort... Fishing has been very good weather permitting. We've had a blast of wind that has lasted for a few days, and has made access to fall walleye haunts pretty tough . Fall has some of the best trophy walleye fishing you'll ever find here on Rainy. 35 f.o.w. with wind action has been a good depth to start searching for walleyes. Main lake reefs will be producing as long as you find baitfish present. Great time of year to be using jigs and minnows. I prefer the H20 Precision jigs in the 3/16, 1/4 to 3/8 depending on wind conditions. The firetiger patterns have been working well . plastics or shinners/rainbow chubs are great tipping trailers during this time of year. Good Luck and have a great trip!!!
See you on the water!!

Hi Uncle T RD was right on. It was slow/wet/wind/cold going at first...but once I zeroed in on the structure (with the right Lakemaster chip) it was game on Jig/shiner was the ticket..crawler/lindy rig also worked well. A couple of nice smallies hit the crawlers as well. Just out of the Brule Narrows I thuoght I had a snag...until it started moving! it was slowly taking line as my pole was doubled over, then went under the boat and BLIP...it was off! I never saw it, but what ever it was it was HUGE. Thanks again RD! The trip urned out a little different than I had intended, but fishing has once again proven to be powerful medicine for me! I camped on one of the islands and had a wonderful time. I have pics if I can figure out how to post
