Fall Bite on Pool 14

#710653 - 09/27/08 02:45 PM

I made it on the water for a few hours friday and found fish in a couple spots. I fished 7 wings, found fish on two. Fished a few of my fall spots with nothing but catfish and a sheepy there.
The wings holding fish where both adjacent to deeper troughs running down stream, and both where short. Marked lots of fish on channel edges along these troughs down stream from the wing dam tips. Clouds of shad on the back side of the wings. If you find this, you'll pick up some fish.
Pitching hair jigs, H20's with half a crawler, and casting cranks brought fish to the boat. The biggest two, a 24 and 21, came on cranks. Kept mixing up my presentation on the wings I found fish on, and the bite continued for some time with this approach.
Looking at the long range forecast is making me drool. Cooler daytime highs and lows in the 40's spell one thing for me....

Sounds like you had a great day on the water. I will be out Sunday at day break, I hope I have as good a day as you did. I'm going to start on wingdams then go play in the running sloughs. Maybe I'll see you out there.

Got a couple hours out on 14 myself, Friday morning. Didn't do quite as good. Only had one keeper 18 inch walleye make it to the boat. Pretty much a mix of everything else, at least after the fog lifted. At one point, I could just barely see from one end of the boat to the other!!!!! Just threw the anchor out and fished where I was for about an hour and a half. (Everything for me came on just a basic crawler rig.)

Hope to have a little better luck in the morning.
