Pool 2 update.

#711255 - 09/30/08 11:44 AM

Was able to get out on sunday for a few hours to chase some walleyes around and see whats going on on pool 2. Spend most of my time pitching wingdams. Tried a little trolling to. The bite was pretty slow. Managed to find one nice 24" walleye pitching purple/chartreuse paddles tails to a wing dam. Found just a few white bass and sheep heads to. There seems to be plenty of guys out fishing sunday afternoon. Looks like a lot of the cruisers are put away for the year. Hopefully with the cool temps coming in this week the bite will pick up.

Anyone else been getting out?

I believe we crossed paths twice that day Mike, once you were on a trolling run...the other at the landing.

I also was able to boat a half dozen white bass....but no walleye. I made a couple of trolling runs and found some large forage clouds in the back waters...but nothing doing. Temps will be falling this week....and I only saw one cigar boat that day!!! ...so hope to see you out again soon.

That cigar boat was something else. Those things really fly and sound cool to. I know if I had one it would be going full speed up and down the river to. It was good to meet you at the landing.

Was out on Friday afternoon for a couple of hours with a buddy. Wind was pretty unbelievable so we stuck to trolling rip rap. Put 9 fish in the boat including 4 walleyes, 4 white bass, and a channel cat. Not bad considering the last two times out was a skunk. Looking forward to the cooler temps and the pitching plastics.

Got out for a couple hours on Saturday afternoon. Pulled #5s near wings with a couple smaller walleyes and a few more whites to show for it. Nothing to crazy but it was action.

Thats what I was thinkin too Mike....I wonder if Joel was mostly above the confluence...and if there could be a big difference above and below the minnesota? There's three quick spillways from st. anthony to the ford....then the warm muddy minnesota rolls in.

Made it out for a couple hours this afternoon. My machine said the water was 63 degrees so it looks like it hasn't changed much since last Sunday. The air temp was below 60 and with a stiff North wind it sure felt like Fall Walleye fishing on the river!

Caught a bunch of White Bass and....and....and....I CAUGHT THREE WALLEYES THROWING RINGWORMS AT WINGDAMS. Maybe there's hope for me yet.

Wow! Rootski! I was above the confluence for the most part. And I think I did have higher readings towards the Lilydale landing. But those readings have got to be in the 50's now.

Didn't have the walleye gear out with me on Tuesday, managed two channels and a carp. We were up by Eagle creek on the Mn river and I was looking at 64 degree water temps. I really wish I had brought some cranks or hair jigs, the bite was slow for six hours out there.

We were down by 494 the other week and I can't remember what the temp was, but now that we are past these 80+ degree days, things should start to pick up.

Good to hear you were catching fish on ringies Mike!! Was down on Saturday and my graph was reading 68 degrees. We managed olny one eye but were catching smallies pretty good for a bit. Most were caught on a yum dinger left out too freefall on the top of the rocks. I bet things wont really pick up good yet for a couple weeks but hope I am wrong Might run down for a couple hours here tonight and will report back if I make it down there.

Got out on Pool 2 for the day yesterday. Water temps 61-63 degrees.

Only managed one walleye but the whities were on fire. A nice smallmouth and a channel cat rounded out the catch. Everything was on cranks...did not get a single hit on plastics. Wind was a factor with pitching plastics.

Saw Griz out guiding clients near 494 landing. Spoke with his clients at the landing when we pulled off. They got into big fish according to the clients...8lb'ers. I'm assuming he has his clients vertical jigging with fatheads .

See Dustin's report...he mentions a good minnow bite for a short time window before the plastics bite beging to get going.

I might choose to carry minnows if there was a bait shop between my house and the landing. Nearest one is 15 miles in the opposite direction.

It was too beautiful out to stay off the river yesterday. No Walleyes this trip, lots of Sheephead, Smallies, and White Bass however. Just about everything came on a Firetiger colored crankbait. Water temp was 61 degrees.

As I was heading downriver towards the 494 access, I see another boat coming up river. Then the people in the boat start waving and hollering....it turns out my daughter and son-in-law just bought a boat and took it out on the river for a test drive. That was fun
