Was surprised to see his face greet me this morning as I stopped in at one of my daily stops. What gives? I thought this was a place that was not about politics and a place I could get away from it? Not every person on this site is a republican. It is possible to have a dedicated sportsman and vote democrat. Just my morning rant

The ads across the top and down the right hand side are placed by an outside agency. IDO has nothing to do with their selection.
On the other hand, ads on the left (Skeeter boats, Beckman, etc) ARE selected by IDO, and are in place because IDO believes in those products, and because those companies believe in us. We strongly encourage all of our guests to support our site sponsors!
I don't think there should be any political ads allowed at all. If the members can't discuss politics here, advertizing companies shouldn't be allowed to post them here either.
Rules are rules and should be followed by all parties at all levels at all times.
Rules are made to be broken, in this case by politicions or support groups. They (the rules) only apply when there is no money involved. PAC put up the cash and this site along with others has made the choice to accept the money.
The ONLY reason politics cannot be discussed here is that, time and time again, the membership has proven themselves incapable of having that discussion in a calm and constructive manner. And lord knows we've tried. All we get is hurt feelings and grown men acting like children.
I have never heard a banner argue with anyone.
IDO does not endorse a particular political party or candidate. Any candidate or party can place an ad here through the third party agency we sell that space to each month.
IDO receives no more or less per month if political banners are placed here or not. A truck ad is the same as a beef jerky ad is the same as a political ad.
To anyone that feels that banner to be objectionable... welcome to an election year. I find them ALL objectionable. Any place I come across them. The only good news is that in 30 more days all this nonsense will be behind us. And then we get to find a way to survive the eventual winner, regardless of who comes out on top. If you've found a way to steer clear of political ads I would assume you to be living under a rock without access to TV, print or internet in any form.

Not just membership, you have right wing moderators to deal with too....
As far as the banner goes...hey it keeps the lights on around here. I'm ok with it. I would not be surprised to see the other side pop up in an add. I pretty much know where my vote is going and no add is changing my mind at this point in the game. I'm sure that can be said for most here that care about politics.
I don't care if it was Norm, Frankin or Barkley. I just don't feel this is the place for those banners. To those who disagree, what is your opinion going to be when the first PETA banner pops up?
I understand the advertising, I know income is needed, and I find it hard to believe the ad agency doesn't have some sort of filter to keep certain banners off the board. As I stated in the "wolf" debate, it comes down to first impressions, how many times do you have to make a "first" impression? So I'm a new lurker, was told to go visit this site because the information there is great. While browsing I see an "offensive" ad, how likely am I to re-visit or to even sign up as a member? Take a look through a new set of eyes, doesn't bother me, but don't be so blinded thinking that it doesn't bother some.
