Last Saturday, I smoked my Minnkota Powerdrive bow mount. When I say smoked it, I mean the thing popped a couple times. You know that electrical pop-pop sound followed by a sizzle then steady smoke out of the base of the motor. (The area where the battery lights are) Not good! I guessed it was a blown circuit board and out of my ability to fix it myself.
So yesterday over the lunch hour I run out to Motor Clinic and drop it off. I mentioned Id really like to have it back by Friday if possible. During check in the service rep ran the serial number and mentioned it may still be under warranty!! Just bring in the receipt.
So, at about 3:30 yesterday, I get a call saying the motor is ready. Replaced control board and coil wire. The bill would be $190 if not covered under warranty. Sweet!!! Thats great service.

Had the trolling motor in there 3 times this year..2 times were for excessive fishing line inside the unit which caused it to freeze up
All in all excellent service all 3 times

I just picked my unit up today, a MinnKota Maxxum, from them. They replaced the armature on the unit for the second time in two years. Not cool!!
I've taken various trolling motors, MinnKota and Motor Guide, to these guys over the years and they're great!!
Very accomodating to the tournament guys (if you're not a prick).
As far as I'm concerned, they're the best trolling motor repair facility in the state.

This was my experience; I had a 04 Alumacraft Trophy and an 04 Power drive that started on fire. It totaled my boat and almost took my house. It was rigged at the dealer and fused at the batteries. The fire started at the base where the meter was. The lesson I learned was that I unplug the motor when its not in use.

I never leave mine plugged in when not using it, especially when charging the batteries. Very easy way to smoke the circuit board. Actually changing the board is pretty easy, Jon, I just did it last night on a powerdrive I bought at an auction. Just pull one wire off at a time so you don't get them mixed up and plug it into the new board in the same place. It took me about 45-60 minutes. Most of the wires are color coded so you just match the up with the proper colored wires and plug together. Board cost $90 directly from Minnkota. Ordered it Monday morning and had it Tuesday afternoon. Just gave them the serial# of the motor and the customer service guy looked up the part# and shipped it to me.
