Why don't/can't ice houses be made out of Gortex? Blocks the wind and its waterproof.

I would imagine cost would be one factor and I don't see a need for it to be breathable???? Thus leaning to other products that do the same at a lower cost.

They could. But they would be horrible expensive.

Gore-tex is a membrane that is placed between layers of durable fabrics. Gore-tex wouldn't be strong enough to be exposed to the elements so you'd end up with 3 layers of material that is now accomplished with a single layer of canvas or nylon.

As for the houses made out of canvas or nylon, I've never had an issue staying dry or out of the wind in either so I'm not sure the added expense could be justified.
