Been seeing a fair amount o' fish and boating a few here and there. No real patterns for the lakes I've been fishing. Sometimes deep, sometimes shallow, sometimes slow, sometimes fast, sometimes inside weeds, sometimes outside, sometimes gliders, sometimes hair, sometimes topwater. I guess you might as well try a little bit of everything and try to get out there at prime times.
I have been hearing very few good reports from The Pond. I think it's been a pretty down year overall. Hopefully it will pick up yet this Fall. Good luck.

Harriet has produced some this week, off the shore and off the peir. A large number of sucker minnows have been heading out to Tonka this past week. Still not constant but they keep heading out......

Isn't this about the 3rd year we've heard this now for ski's?? Are these fishing getting too smart, killed, netted?? What's going on with the fishery? Or is the bite so top secret nobody is saying anything.

Combination of all the above. When the fish are going on the sand on the North end you can walk across the water boat to boat. Therefore I don't think anybody is talking when they do get a fish. There are a bunch of people who only fish Mille Lacs when the bite is really on. Keep the talking down and you keep those guys away. That and I also think the bite is down this year. You could ask the die hard guys on this site but I don't think they are talkin'
I dont think there are many people even out after them and the few that are probably are pretty tight lipped if they are getting any.I doubt if they are getting much action as even the trollers have nearly given up already. They also have plenty to eat out there so its likely to be slow. However they are likely to be real fat and heavy with all that feed out there so you never know you just may get lucky and land the state record.I might even take a few casts or do a little trolling myself this fall.Ive always said it will probably be a walleye guy bringing the state record to the scale. If I happen to pull one in with a 28 inch or bigger girth it will get knocked over the head and I will tell ya how much it weighed on a certified scale Dont worry there are plenty of them in there and at times I think there are too many and one less wont hurt.
We have had pretty good luck on Mille Lacs this year for muskies. Biggest going 53". There was one specific pattern that was working for us and it continued for quite some time. We haven't been there for 2 weeks, so I don't know if the pattern is still holding. I will more than likely be out there tomorrow.
no reports, no pics. I think all those stocked fish have matured and died over the past 20 years.
Years back was stellar quantity of mid-40" fish. Then a few years later, lots of "50" fish, that were in reality only 48-50. Then a few "tunas" pushing 53-54. Now, for the past two years, you just don't see/hear anything.
I also don't think there is a very good natural reproduction due to spawning grounds being harrassed by smallies, pike, even lg mouth bss.

People that seem to know the most about Muskys up there tell me they figure there is around 30,000 of them in there.Thats seems like a big # to me but thats what they say. They also say they are reproducing but not sure how well.I have also heard there was a pretty good hatch of tulibee and I have seen a bunch on the electronics in the late fall the last couple years and snagged a few so they have some very good eating.I think its a lot like the walleyes when the food is up they seem tougher to come by and you think the numbers of fish are low but then the bait goes down and you wonder where all the fish came from.Im not even close to being a Musky guy but this is what DNR guys have told me and guys like Gene Miller.
1 follow today and 1 ripped in half bull dawg. Our day got cut short by a nice October thunderstorm right at primetime. Oh well. Hard to say if I will be back to Mille Lacs again this open water season. Might stick with some "numbers" lakes. We'll see!
I'll be up there this weekend. If anyone has any tips they want to share I'd be more than happy to listen
We're going to pull some raps in the evening for walleyes, otherwise I'm going to throw the Dawgs and #10s til I'm sore and call it good for the year. Dave
I would concentrate on fishing the SE end rock reefs. That's usually a good area this time of year. The fish are there. I'm guessing that's where you were going though anyway. There were still plenty of musky fishermen out there last time I was there. Still plenty of guides too. I would stick to pounder dawgs and cowgirls. Good luck!
