Anyone finding decent schools of silvers in their search for eyes and sauger? The kids are finally old enough (and interested enough) for their first trip to the Croix. Looking to put in around Bayport...
Also, curious as to other's observations about silver's in recent years. Growing up, I remember beating them off with a stick and sometimes getting to the point where it almost became annoying because you couldn't even get a bait through the the walleye/sauger. Lots of nice sized ones too. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen it like that for years...
Thanks,
Jim

Last fall I ran into a lot of 8-12" fish pulling 3 ways and jigging. I didn't catch as many big ones as some years, but there seems to be a strong population still in river. I think it can vary year to year as where they are at based on where the food is.

Thanks Patrick! I'll let you know how we do. That said, I want to make sure the weather holds (for the kids' sake). The PWT tournament also has me thinking about whether or not this is the best time to be down there, but I guess they'll be pretty spread out...that's a lot of water to cover.

If you head out saturday there will only be 50 boats out fishing from the tourney. Wed thru Friday might be a little busier though. I almost forgot, this spring I did find quite a few bigger silvers too. They were taking my jig n minnow faster the walleyes then. I am guessing once the water cools they will be a little easier to find and easier to catch.

We didnt have any problems catching silvers today. Targeted mainly 20 FOW trolling and jigging. We actually had a quad , all 4 rods, 3 had silvers and one had an eye on.
