Minnesota River Access Points

#772157 - 04/05/09 09:15 PM

I do a decent amount of shore fishing on the Minnesota River. I know of places I can access the river in Chaska, Shakopee, and Blackdog Road under 35W. Does anyone know of any other places in that general area that a guy can get to shore to fish? Any help would be awesome. PM me or respond on this thread. Thanks.

I know you can access the MN River near downtown Carver. There is a fairly nice park adjacent to downtown with a public access that people fish near.

Good call. I used to fish down there when I was a kid. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Down by the Bloomington Ferry Bridge is a park where you can walk in. I think there is a footbridge over the river right there. I haven't been there in years, but from what I remember, the fishing's pretty good.

I checked it out today DFresh. The water there is pretty big, and with the levels being so high I doubt it will produce. I have a feeling later in the spring or early summer it may be a good option though. Thanks.

I see people fishing that area almost every time I go by when I'm heading up stream.
Ryan... find the swing bridge in Savage and look around that. I see lots of people fishing from shore in that area. It also is a good spot.

Hey Ryan - how did you get back there? The last time I was there a friend drove and I didn't pay attention.

You should be able to map quest Carver and be able to find it.

Larry,
Is that the old train bridge that is no longer in service? If so I found it. I was going to try it Tuesday but the police were hanging around so I couldn't get back there. Looks like a good spot though.

I believe it was old shakopee road to bloomington ferry road. That takes you to the lots with the trails and bridge.

Check the MN DNR's website for the Metro River Guide. It has a list of all the access points and docks and stuff like that.

Also check out the hidden falls area or near the ford dam. There are tons of spots along the river I think the best thing to do is just start driving and finding them for yourself.

Mega bump. Got out for a couple of hours at the Bloomington Ferry Bridge last night. Nothing. I started upstream by some wood in the water, but it seemed pretty shallow. Spent about 20 minutes actually fishing at the bridge. It seemed a lot deeper right up to shore. I assume they dredged it when making the bridge? The water was barely slowing. In hindsight should have tried Blackdog or the High Bridge where the water should be moving a little. It was nice to get out again though. 80 in September is damn nice. On the way out I saw 3 gentlemen heading down to where I was fishing and I wonder how they did.

Fished Blackdog with big cut suckers on Monday night. We moved around a lot, and nothing was biting. Rain chased us off around 8:30.

Of all the things that can chase you out of Blackdog, rain is one of the better. :P

Go to Belle Plaine!!! awesome bank fishing there..I have caught some nice flatheads there...i forget all the road numbers etc but right in town if you cross over the railroad tracks there is a great bank access near a good river bend and a great snag..further up the road if you cross the bridge and pass the boat access whichwill be on your right the next left which is a county road take a left there follow it about 2 miles and before you get to your next stop sign there is a little sholder/field area you acan park on..walk down the hill and there is a nice bend ofriver to fish..little scary after dark but good fishing caught a 45lb flattie there

just checked rightneard the co rd 60 and co hwy 6 intersection..it's a steep hill down but a fun trip.
