Might be going to look at an older lund tri-hull tomorrow. Any opinions? Been looking for a boat for a while now, in the $500 range and this one fits the bill. Thought it looks kind of cool, compared to just buying an older aluminum. Has a 65 horse... seems like a pretty big motor for a 14 to 16 ft boat, but the motor needs work.

We had one when I was a kid. I remember the cap over the transom wasn't sealed and the plywood in the transom rotted out. That was quite the job to replace when you don't work with fiberglass efficiently. That 65hp sounds like a bit much. We had an 18hp on ours.

The EXACT same thing happened to us, unfortunately we found out after we did a huge overhaul of the whole boat. CHECK THE TRANSOM!!!
Also, we have a 45HP on ours and it really moves good.

I have one of these. It is rated for a 45. I have a 50 on mine and it does pretty good.
Very stable but it is a rough, wet ride in the waves.

Check the thread i've got going about older Lund Tri-Hulls. If that 16ft can handle the 90hp I/O i'm sure you'll be fine with any outboard at or below that HP level, assuming the transom is still solid!
