South Metro Bass Fishing 5/27/09

 Stick worm largemouth on the
inside weedline Finally made it out today to chase some largemouth bass with a couple of my brothers after not making it out on the opener last weekend. With overcast/clouds, wind and a high of 55 I wasn't all that optimistic about catching a bunch of fish but we decided to give it a go. Employing some early season strategies and a bit of knowledge from time on the water put a couple of pretty nice fish in the boat for us like this one pictured here.

to shore bass Early in the season there is a section of water that gets overlooked on a vast majority of lakes because it seems pretty illogical to fish. These fish were all caught in less than 3ft. of water either all the way near shore or tight to the inside edge of the new weed growth. The more pronounced of an "edge" we could find the better. What is better than catching 2-4 lb largemouth in water so skinny you can't get a boat through it?
 Afternoon Tube bass again on
the inside Baits for us included "Wave Worms" in a reddish/purple (which is basically like a Yum Dinger or Senko) rigged texas style with no weight. All of my fish this morning came this bait fished pretty aggressively. These fish are not shy about taking baits right now as a couple of them nearly came out of the water chasing these worms.
I got to get out in the morning and afternoon for a bit today and the afternoon bite was Lake Fork Tubes pretty shallow. This last fish was a pretty cool one that I have never had happen before. He hit my tube, I reeled down and snapped off my flourocarbon tippet at the knot. I re-rigged threw it back and sure enough caught the same fish with my tube still in her belly.
All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Nice fish Micah! I also got out bassin' for the first time last night in the crappy weather. Fishing was so-so but did manage a few nice fish, also on Lake Fork tubes.

This is my 1st post anywhere so please bare with me if I make some mistakes.
If you're willing to make the trip up to Lake Minnewashta in Excelsior, MN, you should find the nice size largemouth are just tearin' up the senko/yumdinger worms in the inside weedlines. In 3 hrs we had caught 20 fish between us. My partner caught 4 bass over 18", 3 more over 17". I had several big ones(maybe 18") half way to the boat but I wasn't getting a good hook set. I did land a buch of small ones and a 17.5" which is ok for me trying a new technique. That's me in the picture.
There is a sandy ridge that cuts channels of open water right through the weedy area. Basically it is a straight line from the park beach to the tiny patch of reeds, and continues on from those reeds (look for 3 bouys) all the way to the opposite shore 4 docks down from the point. We were just texas rigging 4 and 6" senkos and dead-sticking them all the way to the bottom and waiting for a bass to pick them up from the edge of weeds.
