The gas gauge on my lund pro sport, stopped working. What to do ?

If by any chance you're running a fairly new Mercury, I'd install a SmartCraft system monitor or Tachometer, and take advantage of the fuel used feature. This way, as long as you know what you put in the tank, you'll know exactly how much you burn each trip. Plus, you get hours, error codes, etc.

mine quit working awhile back. I took it into the nearest lund dealer. Now it bounces between full and empty constantly. I guess that's an improvement

Mine quit working last fall. I was told by guys on here that it was sending unit. I think. That I would have to pull up the floor to change it. I just make sure I put gas in every 2nd or third time out.

The "stock" sending units are junk. I've owned numerous Lunds and they're always troublesome. The only saving grace is that you almost always have more gas than the gauge says. Can't bank on it but it's there. I cut a day short last weekend because the gauge said "E" I get to the gas pump and the tank only takes 2/3 of capacity...

Mine doesn't work very well either. It always says I have 3/4 of a tank. On second thought, I guess it works when I have 3/4 of a tank of gas.

I too have a Lund with a gas gauge that only gives an idea that there may be fuel in the tank. My question is what is out there on the market that can be installed that will show a true fuel tank level. I'm running a Honda not Mercury so I would assume smart gauges are out.

I installed one of these Livorsi units on my 1850 Tyee...and it solved the problem instantly. The readings were accurate and no more bouncing. The unit needs 12V to make it work so you need to run a 12V wire over to the sending unit area. A friend had similar problems with his (not Lund) at the time and installed this same unit...solved his issues too. My present Lund gauge flops around too and doesn't show accuracy at all but I just live with it, at least for now.

Very seldom do the gauges go bad. The sending units can be the problem. A very easy solution to check what is bad is to ohm out the sending unit. You will have to get to the sending unit to do this. Pull the sending unit out of tank and manually actuate the float up and down. You should get a different reading while doing this on the ohm meeter. If it doesnt change you will need to replace the sending unit. Make sure you ohm out the wire to sending unit as well, this can be the culprit as well.
