Lake Stella Sunfish

#795434 - 06/18/09 12:16 AM

My wife, son, and I went out to Stella on Saturday and had a blast catching sunfish on their beds. The day started out with us towing a boat in that had a dead battery and seeing a large bed of sunnies right off his dock in under 3 feet of water. We proceeded to catch over 100 sunfish in the next hour and a half with most of them being 7-9 inches. We kept 10 males for a meal and had fun practicing C&R .

My 5 year old son has really made dad proud with learning to use a spinning rod and reel and taking his own fish off the hook! .

We were using Rat Finkes in size 8 and 10(color did not matter) and Berkley Gulp spikes and 1.5' minnow grubs. I also saw a few largemouth bass up cruising, but they ignored the panfish setup.

It was a Great day fishing with my family and hopefully the rain will stop so we can go back and try again!
Good Luck,
