What Do I have?

#795589 - 06/18/09 05:44 PM

Just picked up this very clean and solid Lund boat. The seller knew nothing about it as far as year, parts availability, motor brand, hours, etc. I'd like to give it a tune up this weekend but wonder if i'll be able to find cap, wires, plugs, oil filter, etc. Anyone familiar with this model? It is supposedly a 90hp Mercruiser I/O and has hydraulic tilt. Any help would be appreciated!

Thats what I thought too. But that tag only says model number and max wt. The model code seems very generic...

E-mail the info you got to lund and ask for help. They are very helpful. Good Luck

tag will either be on the transom or near the steering wheel, most of the time is on the back of the boat near the motor. Little silver tab.

Watch the transom on that guy, since it's an IO you may not have an issue but we got a lund just like that for free, rigged it all up only to find that the transom was completely rotted out, after cracking it with the outboard of course.

Mid 70's Lund Shell Star??

P.S. That looks like it's in great shape for it's age.

Finally have the boat ready for its first trip back to the water since 1992. Although I know little about the boats model name, year, and owner history I can say it was well maintained. Beyond the usual I/O tuneup stuff such as plugs, wires, points, condenser, oil filter, the only part replaced was a secondary solenoid for the starter. The fuel pump had a bit of a weep on top but after tightening and a bit of gas run through, the seals seem to have swelled enough to stop the issue. From what I can gather, its a pre 1973 because its lacking the mandatory VIN stampings on the hull. So the 90 mercruiser was first used in 1970 i believe, making my boat a 1970-1973 Lund fiberglass. All guages work well and it really does idle smooth and start well so far. Will keep you posted on the restoration, next up is a complete wash/wax/buff of the entire boat. After that i'm hoping to wire brush and repaint the stern drive a nice gloss black. Thanks for all the help and interest, this has gone from being a worrysome gamble purchase to a fun garage project!
