Fishing is strong in the Hayward Lakes area.
Water temps are in the mid-upper 70s. Most of the larger bass have vacated the shallows, leaving behind bedding gills and a host of small bait-stealers.
We found our best daytime bite for quality panfish on the outside edge of the well-developed cabbage beds, in 7-10 feet. Crawler chunks fished 4-5 feet below a float did the job on some nice pumpkinseeds and the random largemouth or two.
Walleyes were strictly an after-dark pursuit for us, as our family cabin sits on a lake with a 12-foot Seechi disk measurement. Casting cranks to shorelines with timber and gravel yielded some nice fish for us this weekend.
When walleye fishing in summer's warm waters, please remember to return your eyes to the water rapidly, and support them while they regain their wits. We were able to successfully release all of our walleyes this weekend, but only by devoting a significant amount of time to each of the releases.

Was up to the cabin june 17-21, fishing was excellent for walleyes, smallies, and pike. Our lake is extremely clear as well, with a secchi disk reading of 15 feet. leadcore during the day and night were productive, as long as we kept our lines right above the weeds. last day we fished weeds with live bait and pulled our biggest fish of the trip during the afternoon sun. as always a great vacation spot and great fishing.
