Another Mille Lacs PB caught corking

#796400 - 06/22/09 08:25 AM

Here's a pic of Stan's PB from Saturday, a 27 7/8" Pig! This is the third one in my boat this week. This is why I guide, they just never get old

I'm headed back up tomorrow for a couple more trips. It looks like it's going to be a little warm so hopefully we'll have a breeze.

Great looking fish Joe and congrats on putting your client on this piggy! That fish would be pretty hard to take during a tourney though....

Great fish Joe! Would a 28" put a smile on their faces?

Congrats on the PB!!!

Congrats to the angler and way to go Joe.

Have you been having success corking mid day?

Great looking eye. I was up last Monday and had some success corking late afternoon on some of the deeper reefs. The obvious night bite continues to be strong but managed some nice late day fish as well.

Has anyone had any success after the initial sun down flurry? After 10:15 or so I have always struggled to boat fish at this time of year. It seems that bugs fill the water column and the bite goes South? Anyone else experience this or has anyone caught fish after that time? Any ideas??

Here is a cool looking picture of my wife Stacie with a nice 9:50 pm corking fish with the orange sky behind her.

Lip, I use bobbers all day long whether its calm or windy, rain or shine. There's definatly a time and a place for Lindy rigs but I can count on one hand the number of lindy rig fish I've seen caught this week. I'm a die hard lindy man, that's all I used to use. But bobbers have out produced any technique I've tried in the last few years. Keep in mind I'm not an open water troller but I don't do too bad with the Ole cork.

Same for my boat. After about 10:00 the bite dies off. Anyone corking the edges of the mud in the evening. The bite was still very good on the shallow rocks last Monday. I would guess the mud evening bite would be crazy good right now as well.

I put in at 9 pm on friday and fished til 6 am with the best bites coming in waves throughout the night.Fished all mud in the northwest corner.

Nice work, Joe. I know many of the teams that cashed a check at the Hunters tourney were combat corking. (a fish here, a fish there, keep on the move...) So it is a great way to get fish during the day. Shallow, deep, and in the middle on nowhere.

Thanks Deerwoody. That is what I remember from the past but I guess I just didn't hang in there long enough. We left around 11pm.

Wab, I was on the Edge of the Mud on Saturday evening and did Ok for the flurry. We did miss one.

Lip, was out most the afternoon on Monday and Monday night. Afternoon was dead calm, very hot and humid, we couldn't buy a mud bite, then moved into some rocks and caught a couple before we went in for supper. Had a bunch of chores to get done around the compound before the evening bite, so really didn't get set up till 9PM and my brother had two in the boat before I got my line untangled. After 10:30 when things got slow we moved, and picked up about 25 fish up to about 12:30 AM, 8 for the box, a couple over, a couple under, tossed a few red eye roughy back. The mayfly hatch was crazy! We caught most fish right in the light of the stern nav. light, I think the walleye we keying in on the baitfish which the mayflys were attracting. Fun night to say the least. We looked at some notes from a few years back, but earlier in June, knowing the lake is about 10 days off the average warm-up, we went to the same spots, south rocks.
