With the warm temps today, I'm wondering how soon the bite is going to taper off into the "dog days" of summer?? I know many of us arm chair biologists thought this spring the opener bite would be good, then taper off. From the few reports I'm seeing here and a few from friends, the bite sure seems to be holding strong. Of course, this is our first extended stretch of warm weather too.
What do you guys think?

Kooty, I had 71 degree water temp on Saturday with the surface flat calm. A little and I mean a lil wind the temp dove back down to 65 degrees on Sunday. IMO, I think the water temp is a week behind last year which was supposedly behind. So I think the “Flats” bite will continue pretty good for around another couple weeks. Heck there is still a good deep water (20-27’) “transition” bite still happening, which is more of an early June bite. Not to mention that you can still hammer them pretty good corking at night.
I also agree with a comment made to me, that I do not think there is as much “eatable size” forage as many think there is, but that will change by the end of July when some of the forage has the time to get bigger.
Just my $.02

Exactly what Tuck said.
Put the boards on, turn up the tunes, grab a cold one, and wait for the big ones to hit.

In typical years and this is not a typical year. My best bite is usually June 24th - July 10th. I think the water temps are a little behind, so we definitley have the best ahead of us yet.
Gut you never told me that.
Then what????? When this bite ends it is FULL BORE DEER hunting baby!

I've never done well in August. Do OK, but not what I consider great. September has really kicked my butt. Way too much bait out on the flats and basin. The fish are really tough to pull during the days. Even the full moon bite is very hit or miss then.

This bite is going to only get better. Surface temps don't mean much when its flat calm and hot like its been the last few days. I've been pulling fish out of 20-22 FOW and they are fine, and cold to the touch, but after an hour in the livewell with that hotter surface water pumping on them they belly up.
What we need to really get this bite going big time is a good 2-3 day blow. Stir the lake up and mix all the water temps together and break up some of those bug clouds and it is going to be totally crazy out there.
In case anyone's interested, I've boxed and cleaned 52 slots the last couple days, and my shallow water bite hasn't even started yet.
.....and Kooty, Lip is right, most people fish way too deep in August!

You are going to get your wind on Sat. and Sun. I'll be out there doing what I can but just a quick reminder to be smart and be safe for all those going. 20 - 25 mph winds is what they are saying.

So you take a few over the side and front. Just make sure your bilges are working.
On the bright side the bugs shouldn't be bad.

Just small chop today. I hate it when the anchor drags. Fish sure had the feed bag on. I think I saw Brad heading out to troll.

Heres the wind...
It was pretty rough out there yesterday, but it had the fish going. We only caught 3 to weigh, but had a lot of little ones and some big ones too. The surface temp went from 76 on Friday afternoon to 68 yesterday afternoon.

Mud Jack? You fished pretty darned close to us for a good chunk of Saturday. We easily caught 30 fish while you guys were rigging in that wind. You may want to look into that shallow bite...
