There is lodging in Orr. Not much but homes out on Elephant. There are a couple resorts (i think). I should know, my deer camp is all 3 miles away from there.

I do know there are some awesome islands you can camp on on BlackDuck. Used to be great for big panfish and big smallies.

Send a PM to user RonZych. He goes up there every year and can give you the low down on lodging and what not. Mel George's is where he stays. They have cabins and a motel.

If I am out fishing, I might be streaming it live. Next outing, Sunday the 21st in the afternoon.

I've done well with the Smallies this time of year on Elephant. Look for rock to weed transition edges. That first bay across from the public access is pretty weedy but the edges are rocky and that where I've found Smallies. Don't be bashful, I was throwing half-ounce white Spinnerbaits and they were climbing all over those big baits. The reeds can be good right around sunset too.

Good luck, let us know how you did!

There's a resort on elephant called melgeorges. Nice place. Also Myrtle lake is a good resort for easy access to some good smallmouth lakes. (Elbow lake is nearby there) also blackduck is great for panfish. Not sure what chip is going to have those lakes for your gps. I have the lakemaster and pellican is one of the few lakes on my chip for that area. Good luck!

thanks to all of you for passing along the information. I certainly appreciate it. I have a 2200 mile drive ahead of me dragging my ranger and I didn't want to go in blind.
thanks again,
jerry

If you are bringing a Ranger up, I'd think twice about Elephant and Black Duck. I was just up there two days ago and you have about 10+ miles of horrible gravel road. I've never seen such bad washboard, it almost put me to sleep when I was heading home. I was dark, warm, and had a free seat massage!

Did you ever make it up to Elephant? The ten miles of dirt probably doesn't matter to a guy already putting on over a 1000 miles! We fish there every year for at least a week. Lots of nice bass, but so far nothing over 5 pounds. What leads you to Elephant? As long as you are in the area, hit the Mississippi anywhere between Brainerd and Anoka for fantastic fall bass.

I fished the Little Falls pool for smallies on Saturday. Sobi speaks the truth... we enjoyed fantastic fall smallmouth fishing! If bass are the target the river is tough to beat right now.

Glad you could make over to our area. Let me know if you are ever nearby again. I'd love to join you on the water. I know the boys downriver are still pounding the bass, but since the snow set in I've been switching focus over to whitetail. Here's the last bass of the season (Sept 26)for me.
