So I need, or want, a new slop rod. Something that I can throw frogs and rats all day long with. So something that is not to heavy. I already have a good high speed reel in mind and am planning on using 40lb PP. I don't have a price point in mind. But I want it to be super comfortable in my hands. So please bring on the suggestions.

At $110 ya might consider the Mojo slop rod,Avids would be an option or the tourney series with Croix. The split grip feels right at home for me,but some folks prefer the more tradional handles.Put some in your hands & I think you will know the answer pretty quick. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions Dean. I did get to hold the Mojo Slop rod. It just didn't seem like a right fit for me. Do you usually have slop rods in the Avid and tourney series on hand?
BTW Thanks for the directions to the Bluffs last Friday. Kids melting down because of hunger, wife getting a bit snappy. We got one buffet to go and it was the perfect solution to get us to the Twin Cities with my sanity intact. You are a life save!

i also have the mojo slop n frog and think its a great rod for froggin..but if u like the traditional handle i would suggest the heavy action Fenwick HMX...very affortable and light. Also, IMO for frog fishing, you may as well go big with the line and go with 65 lb. PP...there are no worries with that line you can pull pads right out like nothin...i know guys that use 80 as well  i like 65 tho cuz u can throw it farther...im not tryin to change ur mind, but just my opinion

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to consider 65lb PP. I don't think that the split grip is the issue. It just felt maybe too heavy. I think I was also concerned about the tip of the rod. MAy br I will have to take another look at it.

cold nights and warm days bring the toads in shallow and they are hungry for protien!!!!
I love to hear the proverbial toliet flush.
My favorite slop rod is the Team Daiwa - Light and Tough frog Rod.
Close Second is the Kistler Mag All Day Flipping Stick in the 7'8" model, Good throwing and good pulling in the slop

with you on that...frog season starts pre-spawn and lasts until they won't hit it anymore... 
As for light equipment, I just switched from an Ambassador round reel to the Curado E7 for my frog rod and have to say, that was a GOOD move...
I also prefer to toss 30 lb Suffix braid...the 65 lb stuff just cuts casting distance too much...and I am a firm believer that long casts get more strikes with regard to frog fishing... but that's just me...

I fish the frog in the pre-spawn and spawn...put it down until the nights get cool again and the frogs move the the banks.
You can fish a frog all summer and get dinks. Personally, I rather fish a jig in the milfoil or a roller jig/ c-rig to catch the toads of the summer.
I will put the frog on again after Sept 1st.

You guys on the river fish the frog and swim jig all year. I fish alot of lakes with milfoil and rocks. (and not many lily pads) The biggest fish school and go deep as the water warms.
The biggest fish in the system are not eating the frog during the summer - until the move shallow again. You may get an occasional bite but it is not consistent until we get a few cool nights in September.

I will 'pass' on the biggest fish in the system to chase a good frog bite. 
I absolutely have the 'fever'... 
and too, we have a similar situatio here in fly-over country...but those frog fish often end up with club 'big bass honors' for the tournament...and typically the year...
It's worth it 'here' to chase the frog bite very early in the morning to get those 'kickers' needed ... then move to deep structure/cover work after it dies.
PopR's and other topwater just don't seem to draw the big girls with near the consistency... I love the SPROs..but have taught myself how to toss the black (popper style) scum frog on my heavy rod/braid set up...there are times that there is no substitute for the scummer...

Agree with all points....
I would love to fish the frog - all day - every day - as a preferred method to catch fish. However, as you can see by a "Frog Bite" post today - it can be spotty as a "go-to" pattern.
The biggest single fish of any large tournament is usually a very black fish that appeared to have been sun-tanning under a 2 foot lilly pad / slop. Guys always seem to catch few good fish shallow.
But it is tough to win a tournament on frogs - in my part of the world, until Fall.
Fall is here!!! So, I expect the Big fish Frog bite to turn on in the coming weeks. The fish are starting to bite good on the Metro lakes that I fish.
