Red Wing / Construction set for Lock and Dam 3
Pioneer Press
Updated: 09/17/2009 10:47:20 PM CDT
Lock and Dam 3 on the Mississippi River north of Red Wing is getting a facelift.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has received $70 million in stimulus funds to improve navigation safety and rehabilitate the lock and dam.
The corps is planning to begin the construction work in mid-January and finish by Sept. 30, 2011.
The lock opens to navigation for the season on March 29, but the contractor will be allowed to close it for up to 96 hours per month.
Closures will be limited to 24 hours at a time, with at least 24 hours between closures to allow backed-up barge traffic to pass.
Closures won't be permitted Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
Recreational boaters who use Lock and Dam 3 should be alert to construction vessels in the area.

Fishing will become quite interesting on pool 4 now
maybe for the better or maybe for the worse only time will tell (so will Dean)
BK did I mention you missed out on some great cookies. Dean said "I was going to save these for BK" so I helped myself. Thanks Buddy
