Shell Lake in Washburn County - any info?

#821507 - 09/24/09 12:01 PM

Headed to a cabin for fall getaway with the family 8th - 13th of October on Shell Lake - anyone have any info on this lake? Would like to target walleyes and maybe some bass, boat can do what ever need to be done - probably have limited time to fish due to the young family so I want to maximize my time.

Any info would be appreciated and will report back on what I experienced.

Ted, I grew up in that area & my uncles lived in Shell Lake for 30+ years. There are cribs all over lake that hold walleyes, smallies, crappies, bluegills. Find the cribs that are holding fish drop anchor throw out a slipbobber. The kiddies should have a blast! I'll be up the weekend after you to do grouse hunting. I can't wait!!!!!!!

My grandparents live on shell, and don't forget about south bay. Growing up saw a 13 lb walleye come out of south bay, as well as lots of eater walleye, sunnies, pike and the occasional muskie. Have fun on this beautiful lake.

Thanks for the responses - busy at home/work with 2 little ones under 2 yrs old. Looking forward to getting out fishing and the challenge of the new lake is also exciting.

Temps look a bit cool later this week but should help the fish to have the feed bag on! I will let you know how fishing was!

Enjoyed our time in the area even though the weather wasn't very condusive to being outside. Only fished Shell for a portion of Friday and the smallmouth really liked my redtails and I did break off two good fish but the line looked like they had more teeth than walleyes.

I did catch a fair amout of walleyes on Long Lake(just to the east of Shell) - 12'-15' rigging chubs on the weedline.

Thanks again!

Nice to see Long is putting out. I know that lake has big potential but its also intimidating at the same time. One of these days I need to get out on Shell. I drive by it twice every weekend.
