pool 9 struggling

#822015 - 09/27/09 07:39 AM

been struggling on this pool lately all of our previous producing spots are covered in grass and scum and what few fish we do scratch out are dinks, to those who are still catching are you fighting through the grass or is it time to go wingdam searching never have had much luck on dams but I guess I may have to starting hopping them trying to find some that are holding fish

Coming off a weeks vacation. Spent four days on pool 4.
Same situation, submergent weed breaking down and matting on surface with increasing amounts of duckweed.
Sunny days good fish on structure under slop. Normally I look for thinner spots in slop but these fish were under the thickest parts and would some how find the bait.
Cloudy days fish in same areas but on edges or scattered in remaining submergent weeds.
One key, look for shad activity in area. If I pulled into likely area and didn't see shad, by end of week I wouldn't even fish.
Definite difference in girth of fish now compared to a month ago, they're putting on the weight.
Oh, the fish are definately feeding 'up'.
Good luck

Prior to the front that crossed the region last weekend I haven't had as much time on the water as I would have liked...then again...who does?
I was having some luck on wing dams tossing bomber cranks. Walleyes & Smallies. No monsters but fun tugs.

I've been catching a fair number of respectable size LMB on a plain ole jig head/minnow combo while hunting around for some crappie. To sum it up....The bait fish are shallow. The LMB & the Rock Bass are shallow. The crappie are next to move in.
