Burmese Trout and Sikuk Barb

#822175 - 09/28/09 02:14 AM

I had so much fun the day before that I wanted to give it another try on those mountain streams. Sometimes I feel like I need to pinch myself because I can't believe some of the places I get to go fishing in. Today I had about 3 hours to give it and my Lao buddies were just as eager to go fishing again so we made our plans.

I expressed my interest in catching the Bumble Bee Catfish and my Lao buddies thought they knew of a place that had them so we took off at 6 am to give it a try. We have been getting a lot of rain up here lately so the rivers are a little high and muddy in color. They kind of look like the Brule in WI after a good rain.

We found this beautiful remote place to bank fish and so we did. Right off the bat I connected with another 2 new lifelisters. First, the Sikuk Barb.

And then again with a juvenile Burmese Trout. We caught 4 of these trout but they were all small. I got positive ID's on these fish so I am excited because I know they get much bigger than these. The big mouth is a give-away and the upturned lateral line. The adults develop spots on the head but they really look like a cross between a trout and a barb.

My Lao friend held up our catch here. I caught a decent walking Catfish and he got the Tilapia.
