With limited weekends to get to Mille Lacs in October because of four wheeling and hunting trips planned, my buddy Andy and I decided to try and make the best of this weekend, given that mother nature has not been very good to us over the past week. We decided to hit the north shore after we got to the cabin and got the heat going and to our surprise the rain had quit and the winds died down enough to make fishing manageable, and with 55 degree water temps, we gained a little confidence. We ended up fishing for 7 hours with 15 fish to show, including 6 box fish, a 32" and 40" northern, which was just under 14.5 lbs., along with a couple 24, 25" walleyes. The fish are definatley putting on the feed bag as every fish that came to the boat had some nice bellys on them. Overall, not a bad nite, and it looks like it should just get better as the weeks go on.

Not bad at all. I'll sure be watching this topic as the month progresses, and I know I'll be wishing I could have made the trip this fall.

Roger,
Great first post. This is the ray of hope that I've been looking for in advance of our trip to the pond this coming weekend! Thanks for chiming in with your 2 cents worth. Literally, too since I see you got $ .02 worth of fish bucks for your 1st post!

Nice fish and welcome to the site. Looks like I should of spent more time on the north shore. I did hit one spot up that way last night and caught a 19"er right away. But then had to go. Think Ill be spending more time there this weekend.

Thanks guys, we definately had to work for the fish. Jack, we ended up going out of the red door because of the wind. Lip, the speed that seemed to produce the best for us was 1.8-2
